The Tubby Olive offers traditional extra virgin olive oils and naturally flavored oils made from carefully selected and harvested olives, pressed at their peak of ripeness. Whether you prefer a mild or robust flavor profile, fresh herbs or fruit-infused oils, or specialty oils like our White Truffle or Roasted Walnut Oil, “experts agree that olive oil — especially extra virgin — is good for you,” according to Healthline. Here are a few of the many health benefits of olive oil.

Olive oil is a “good” fat that is good for the heart.

The American Heart Association reports that “dietary fats are essential to give your body energy and to support cell function.” But not all fats are created equal. Unlike “bad” trans fats that can be harmful to your health, olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats, “good” fats that can lower blood pressure and bad (LDL) cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. That is why olive oil is a staple in the heart-healthy Mediterranean diet!

Olive oil fights chronic inflammation and disease.

Extra virgin olive contains nutrients that fight inflammation in the body, including powerful antioxidants and fatty acids(Omega 3, 6, and 9) that can lower your risk of diseases linked to chronic inflammation, such as heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, obesity, and even dementia and Alzheimer’s, per Healthline. Unlike refined oils that are processed with high heat and chemical solvents, extra virgin olive oil is cold-pressed to retain polyphenols and other anti-inflammatory properties.

Olive oil helps your natural beauty shine.

The rich fatty acids in premium olive oil can help hydrate and soften skin by locking in moisture. On a similar note, olive oil is known as a natural means to nourish the scalp, hair, and cuticles, and remove makeup. Highly versatile, olive oil can be used topically to help heal small wounds and burns, diminish the appearance of scars, and soothe atopic dermatitis as well. It’s also a source of vitamin E, a fat-soluble vitamin that can help reduce wrinkles and sun damage.

At The Tubby Olive, our extensive collection of extra virgin olive oils and flavor-infused oils are laboratory tested for nutritional content, including healthy polyphenols, free fatty acids, and oleic acid counts. These numbers demonstrate the health benefits and freshness of our products. In addition, all olive oils from The Tubby Olive are gluten-free, non-GMO, and Kosher Certified. We invite you to stop by our charming store in historic Newtown to learn more about the nutritional facts and culinary applications of our top-quality line up or shop online and we’ll ship your favorite products directly to you!

Check out this recipe that has just a few ingredients and is very easy to make, but looks so very elegant!

Spring Asparagus Gruyere Tart

Asparagus, 2 bunches
1 sheet frozen puff pastry
2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
1 T olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Flour (for the work surface)
Tubby Olive Wild Mushroom & Sage Olive Oil (or Black Truffle Oil) to drizzle

Preheat oven to 400°F. Sprinkle a tiny bit of flour on counter top, and roll out puff pastry dough to about 16 × 10” rectangle. Trim uneven edges, and lightly score a 1” border around the edges of the dough. Using the tines of a fork, gently pierce the dough all around. Bake for about 15 minutes, until slightly golden brown. Remove from oven and spread cheese evenly inside the crust border. Line half the asparagus down the length of the tart, alternating lengths and tips, single layer. Sprinkle with 1 T olive oil and add salt and pepper. Bake again for another 20 minutes. Remove from oven, drizzle with Mushroom & Sage Olive Oil or Black Truffle Oil englishcollege.com. Cut into squares and serve. (Recipe: Cheryl Gilmore, Wrightstown Farmers Market Manager)

The Mediterranean diet includes nuts, seeds, legumes, fruits, whole grains, seafood, and of course, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Our infused olive oils make it easy to add not only great nutrition to your foods, but superb flavor! Make the salad with your favorite greens, toasted chopped walnuts, apples and dress with vinaigrette. Tasting is believing!

In Southern California we don’t get an “Indian Summer” with beautiful fall leaves, cooler days, apple picking in the country… no – it is hot hot hot! It can be June Gloom all summer but when fall rolls around it is all of a sudden sunny with the usual palm trees swaying in the breeze. So what is a former New Yorker to do? Have a dinner party with a “Fall Theme” of course!

I have been playing Bunko (or some call it “Drunko”) for over 12 years with the same neighborhood ladies. We are a tight group, rather snobby, and pride ourselves on our good food and wine choices. I like to think that we try to out do each other at this monthly get together. That means cool it on the processed Costco appetizers, or at least keep the Trader Joe’s mini quiches to a minimum. Here are some of my tried and true recipe suggestions for this time of year. You can mix and match depending on the size of your crowd, find san diego room addition near me

FALL DINNER PARTY IDEAS:

Basic Cheese, Nuts and Crackers – I like to put out a variety. For a fall theme include smoked cheeses, like a smoky Gouda. I prefer Sharp Cheddar, Brie, and one gourmet type like Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese, Point Reyes Blue Cheese, or a nice Parmigiano Reggiano. I also like a Horseradish cheddar at this time of year. Buy some mixed good quality nuts or buy raw walnuts or almonds and sauté them in a pan on low heat with some plain sugar and pumpkin pie spice for a real treat. You can add a bit of butter to the pan, but you don’t have to.

Apple Cider Martinis with Graham cracker Sugar Rims – the Bartender Dan at Big Canyon Country Club and I invented this Fall drink. Take 2 quarts of spiced apple cider (use mulling spices and fresh fruit like lemons, oranges and limes to stew cider in a big pot.) Take a martini shaker and put lots of ice in it. Only add alcohol if you are over 21 and just a little bit or you will regret it. I would add vanilla vodka – 1/2 ounce per drink, vacation rental cleaning service the best companies in san jose. Take a lemon slice and run it around the rim of a martini glass. Dip it into the graham cracker sugar crumbs on a plate. Then pour the ice cold cider mixture into the glass and serve. It is so good.
